Sean M. Mercer, DDS
Meet Dr. Mercer
Dr. Sean Mercer was born and raised in Dover, Delaware. He graduated from Dover High School in 1992 and pursued his undergraduate education at Davidson College in North Carolina. He was an NCAA Division I golf team member at Davidson. In 1996, he earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Biology.
Continuing his education, Dr. Sean attended the Howard University College of Dentistry, obtaining his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree in 2001. Following dental school, he completed his General Practice Residency (G.P.R.) at Christiana Care Health System’s Wilmington Hospital campus in 2002 where he now serves on staff as an attending dentist. The residency program focused on general dentistry with an emphasis in oral surgery, dental management of medically compromised patients, restorative dentistry, and complex implant rehabilitation cases.
After completing his residency, Dr. Sean returned to Dover and joined his family members, his uncle Dr. Thomas Mercer and his cousin Dr. Andy Mercer, in private practice in July 2002.
Dr. Sean is a dedicated dental professional who excels in his professional practice and actively contributes to the community through various dental organizations and community service initiatives. He served as the Kent County site coordinator for Give Kids a Smile. He is a member of the Delaware State Dental Society, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the American Dental Association. He volunteers for Special Smiles at the Delaware Special Olympics, the Delaware School Sealant Program, the Polytech High School dental department, and Veteran’s Stand Down.
Dr. Sean Mercer has held numerous important positions in dental organizations. He served as the Kent County Representative on the Executive Council for the Delaware State Dental Society, chaired their Legislative Council, and currently is the chairman of DENPAC. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Kent County Regional Sports Complex (DE Turf), holding the positions of treasurer and finance committee chairman.
Dr. Sean enjoys spending time with his family outside of his professional and community engagements. He resides in Lewes with his wife, Shannon, and their two children. He has a passion for golf and currently is the president of Kings Creek Country Club. Additionally, Dr. Sean continues to pursue further education by attending annual continuing education courses at the Kois Center in Seattle, Washington, and imP.R.E.S. in Charleston, South Carolina.
