Sean M. Mercer, DDS
Meet Dr. Mercer
Dr. Sean was born and raised in Dover, Delaware. He graduated from Dover High School in 1992 and attended Davidson College in North Carolina. While at Davidson, he played on their NCAA Division I golf team earning MVP honors. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Biology in 1996, and went on to earn his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree from the Howard University College of Dentistry in 2001. After graduating from dental school, Dr. Sean earned his General Practice Residency (G.P.R.) degree at Christiana Care Health System’s Wilmington Hospital campus in 2002. Christiana Care’s residency program provided post graduate training in general dentistry with an emphasis on oral surgery, the dental management of the medically compromised patient population, and the restoration of complex implant rehabilitation cases. After completing his residency program, he moved back to Dover and joined his uncle, Dr. Thomas Mercer, and his cousin, Dr. Andy Mercer in private practice in July of 2002. Dr. Sean furthers his post graduate training at the Kois Center in Seattle, Washington attending continuing education courses on an annual basis.
In his fourteen years of private practice, he has served both his patients and his community. For three years, he was the Kent County site coordinator for Give Kids a Smile. He holds current memberships in the Delaware State Dental Society, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the American Dental Association. He has volunteered for the Special Smiles program at the Delaware Special Olympics, the Delaware School Sealant Program, and the Polytech High School dental department. He served as the Kent County Representative on the Executive Council for the Delaware State Dental Society for six years and currently is the Chairman of their Legislative Council. He is a member of the Greater Kent Committee, and the Board of Directors for the Kent County Regional Sports Complex serving as both their treasurer and finance committee chairman.
Dr. Sean resides in Dover with his wife Shannon, and their two children. In his free time , he enjoys playing golf and coaching youth travel soccer for Delaware Union. In 2016, his team won the Delaware State Cup and competed at the Region I Championships in West Virginia.
