He then completed a General Practice Residency at Christiana Care Health System’s Wilmington Hospital campus in 2002, where he now serves as an attending dentist. He is committed to lifelong learning and clinical excellence, completing advanced continuing education at the Kois Center in Seattle, Washington, imP.R.E.S. in Charleston, South Carolina, and the Implant Pathway training center in Arizona. Through this ongoing training, Dr. Mercer has developed expertise in both the surgical placement and restorative rehabilitation of dental implants, allowing him to provide comprehensive implant care with a focus on long-term oral health and patient satisfaction.

Since entering private practice, Dr. Mercer has remained deeply committed to delivering exceptional dental care while actively engaging in professional and community service. He practices at all three Mercer Sydell Dental locations—Dover, Ocean View, and Milton—serving a diverse patient base across Kent and Sussex Counties. He has served as the Kent County site coordinator for Give Kids a Smile and volunteers regularly to expand access to care for underserved populations. Dr. Mercer has held several leadership roles in dental organizations, including serving as Kent County Representative on the Executive Council of the Delaware State Dental Society, chairing its Legislative Council, and currently leading as Chairman of DENPAC. Beyond dentistry, he serves on the Board of Directors for the Kent County Regional Sports Complex (DE Turf), where he also acts as Treasurer and Finance Committee Chair.
