Meet Dr. Sydell
Dr. Adam Sydell’s early life and educational journey are quite impressive. Born and raised in Dover, DE, he pursued higher education at the College of Charleston in South Carolina. There, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology, laying the foundation for his future in the dental field. After completing his undergraduate studies, Dr. Sydell’s passion for dentistry led him to Temple University School of Dentistry in Philadelphia, PA, where he earned his Doctorate of Dental Medicine (DMD). During dental school, he excelled academically, achieving top honors with Summa Cum Laude distinction. This earned him an invitation to join the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society, recognizing his exemplary achievements and dedication to dentistry.
Following the successful completion of his dental degree, Dr. Sydell attended a General Practice Residency program at Christiana Care Hospital, where he gained invaluable practical experience and advanced training in various dental procedures. Under the guidance of Dr. Howard W. Zucker, he focused on mastering the art and science of single and multiple-implant prosthetics. During his Residency at Christiana Care Hospital, Dr. Sydell expanded his knowledge by providing oral health care to medically compromised patients. Furthermore, he actively participated in a multidisciplinary committee for treating head and neck cancer patients at the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center. This involvement indicates his dedication to collaborating with other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive and specialized care for individuals facing challenging medical situations. Dr. Sydell recently returned to Christiana Care Dental Clinic and serves as an attending dentist. As an attending, he oversees the clinic and helps review cases with the residents to help them manage their patients. Dr. Adam has also served as a committee member and helped to shape the Delaware Adult Medicaid program to include dental coverage for more Delaware residents.
Dr. Adam Sydell returned to Dover, DE, in 2009, joining Dr. Andy Mercer, Dr. Sean Mercer, and Dr. Tom Mercer at Mercer Dental Associates. Together, they worked to provide comprehensive dental care to the local community. In 2012, Dr. Sydell and the Mercers expanded their practice by establishing Mercer and Sydell Dental in Milton, DE. The practice continues to grow with the addition of the Ocean View location in 2021.
To stay at the forefront of dental advancements and provide the best possible care to his patients, Dr. Sydell takes advantage of annual training at the Kois Center in Seattle, WA, im P.R.E.S in Charleston, SC., as well as various other continuing education opportunities. He is also a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD). Being a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry indicates his commitment to excellence in cosmetic dental practices. The AACD is an esteemed organization that provides resources and educational opportunities to dental professionals specializing in cosmetic and restorative dentistry.
