Galen Giaccone, DDS

Meet Dr. Giaccone

Dr. Galen was born and raised in Dover, Delaware. After graduating from Dover High School in 2006, she ventured above the canal to attend the University of Delaware. While science dominated her undergraduate career, her lifelong love of music lead her to continue studying piano under the critically acclaimed pianist, Christine Delbeau. In those first years of college Dr. Galen was introduced to the Miss America Organization; the leading scholarship provider for young women in the U.S. With a platform advocating oral health, Dr. Galen was named Miss Delaware in 2008.

She took a leave of absence from UD and began her year of service as the official hostess for Delaware. She traveled the state for countless appearances, speaking engagements, and advocacy events, while also promoting the Children’s Miracle Network. Among her most memorable experiences that year, Dr. Galen headed to Las Vegas to compete in the 2009 Miss America pageant. She received a Preliminary Talent Award for her piano performance, while also placing as a top 15 Semi-Finalist.

Upon completion of her year as Miss Delaware, Dr. Galen returned to UD, later receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences. She went on to obtain her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry where she was selected for membership into the distinguished Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. She graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2015.

After four years in Baltimore, she returned to Delaware to complete her General Practice Residency at Christiana Care. There, she received advanced training in general dentistry, implant prosthetics, the treatment of the medically complex, and the interdisciplinary management of head and neck cancer patients. Upon graduating from the residency program, Dr. Galen joined the Mercer and Sydell team in Milton, DE. She holds memberships in the Academy of General Dentistry and the American Dental Association.

Dr. Galen’s desire to become a dentist began at age 12, but was undeniably solidified after an eye-opening dental mission trip to Guatemala. No stranger to serving her community, she has been involved in various organizations including Give Kids A Smile, the American Heart Association and Special Olympics Delaware. For those who might be curious, she has taken that icy Polar Bear Plunge on multiple occasions.

In April, Dr. Galen married her high school sweetheart, James Cullen. They currently live in Dover, and are enjoying their time together as newlyweds. Outside of the office, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing piano, cooking, baking, and any outing with her husband!
