Meet Dr. Mercer
Dr. Andy Mercer was raised in Dover, Delaware, and graduated from Dover High School in 1989. He pursued higher education at Clemson University, earning his bachelor’s degree in Microbiology in 1993. Following that, he attended the Medical University of South Carolina and obtained his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree in 1997. After completing dental school, Dr. Andy Mercer continued his education and training by undertaking an Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency in the United States Navy in San Diego, California. Subsequently, he was stationed with the Marines at 29 Palms, California, where he served from 1998 to 2021. His career trajectory, from education to military service, demonstrates his dedication to learning and serving his country.
In July 2001, Dr. Andy Mercer teamed up with his father, Dr. Thomas W. Mercer, in Dover, Delaware, to establish what is now known as Mercer Dental Associates. This marked the beginning of his private practice journey. While entering the world of private practice, Dr. Andy Mercer remained committed to advancing his education. He pursued further training at prominent institutions such as the Dawson Center, The Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Study, The Kois Center, and The Wellness Dentistry Network, all are recognized for providing advanced dental education. More recently, Dr. Andy completed implant placement training at The Stanley Institute and is proud to be placing implants at Mercer Sydell Dental.
Dr. Andy’s involvement extends beyond private practice and education, as he actively participates in various community and outreach initiatives. Dr. Andy has served as an Examiner for the Delaware Board of Dentistry and Dental Hygiene and has been a Medicaid Advisory Committee member. He has volunteered for multiple Give Kids a Smile events and has been a dental missionary to Guatemala, representing local churches and Hands of Hope International.
